'I invite you to be present, to listen and to dream spirituality into being; to respect the wisdom of the times past and traditions present; to honour the dance of life through constant innovation and to live from the heart in all that you breathe into existence.'
At the heart of the Reiki tradition, lies the belief in optimum holistic health. People turn to Reiki to support their emotional and mental health, physical wellbeing and spiritual growth. The Reiki Tradition of healing practice originates from Japan and Reiki as we understand it in the West today was ‘discovered’ by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early part of the 20th century. The word Reiki is made up of two Kanji: ‘Rei’ meaning universal and‘Ki’ meaning energy like the Chinese word ‘Chi.’
As its name suggests, Reiki is a type of energy medicine where the practitioner uses their hands to focus healing energy into the body of their client. Reiki works by encouraging your energy system to function effectively. It clears unhelpful energy from your body and promotes the health of your meridian system and your chakra centres. By creating balance and helping the health of your energy system, Reiki can help you to heal emotional, mental, physical and spiritual dis-ease and help you on your path to ultimate wellbeing. It is important to remember that Reiki is not diagnostic nor is it an ‘alternative’ therapy. It is not a substitute for conventional medicine. In fact it complements allopathic medicine extremely well and is completely safe used alongside other treatments. It is best to inform your GP if you are embarking on any course of complementary therapy, if you are receiving treatment for any illness or condition.
Reiki itself however is so much more than a Japanese healing modality. Working with Reiki soon moves the Reiki pratctioner away from a narrow tradtion and/or belief that Reiki is 'from Japan'. The wonder of Reiki is that through our work with it we are taken on a profound journey into ourselves and the very nature of all that is. An awareness of Reiki becomes an awareness of life - it is this deep and rich potential of work with Reiki which forms the basis of my personal and professional practice.
As we start to journey into our self a curious division appears. It’s almost as if we have two selves. We start to sense a sister operational consciousness within. I have heard this referred to as the ‘higher self’ and I know why this term is helpful but I prefer to use the term 'Soul'. Soul is an easy term to use as it has religious pedigree and most of us recognise within it the idea of something which is not entirely of the body – something immortal which leaves the body upon death.
None of these assumptions tell us very much about the experience of having a soul. For me, one way of describing the lived experience of having a soul, is to describe it as a kind of repository of deep wisdom. It is a kind of intersection with the mysterious: the divine within. It may feel at times as if your soul is a kind of orchestrating intelligence – a Self which has your best interests at heart and is the source of the truth about yourself. I see it as a fragment of the divine energy which animates life. A kind of concentrated form of life-force or ki. Because we have souls we are mysterious beings.
Because we have Soul we are more than just the material body we inhabit. But this is not to say that our Soul has a ‘life’ of its own or to say that, if you were able to see inside yourself you would be able to see your Soul as a distinct and self governing entity. It is not even to say that a Soul is real in the way my arms or legs or head is real. In fact, rather like Chakra, the Soul is inherantly non-existant. It is everything and nothing. It is a little piece of the mystery. Yet, it is in the communication with our Soul that we come to understand our worth, our meaning, our purpose and our Self. Getting to know your Soul is a type of communion with the divine mystery of life.
Living with Soul is to recognise that you are a sacred being but it is also to learn to live with mystery because it asks you to confront that mystery in the form of your Self. The question shifts from ‘who am I?’ to ‘what am I?’ as you journey deeper into your own conscious awareness of your Self. Once your healing pathway turns this corner, it becomes less about fixing your self and more about letting go of your Self. Unhelpful pieces start to drop away and you embrace real change.

Usui Reiki treatment for the improvement of body and mind
The founder… …Usui Mikao
Reiki people learn to focus healing energy in order to heal the body, mind, emotions, and spirit so that they can bring peace and contentment into their lives and the lives of others. Reiki training is divided into three levels. Reiki 1 connects you to the source of Reiki energy as well as teaching you the traditional hand positions for self treatments and the treatments of others. Reiki 2 deepens this connection as well as teaching you key sacred symbols which are used to strengthen your abilities to heal. The third level is Reiki Mastery. Some people learn to become Reiki Master Practitioners and others choose to become Reiki Master Teachers. Deciding to become a Reiki Master is a spiritual commitment which affects every aspect of your life. Whichever level you decide is the right one for you, the Reiki pathway is an exciting one which is often life changing. I consider it a great blessing to have the opportunity to share part of your journey with you.

Taught in small groups of between 2 - 6 people at the Medicine Garden, Reiki 2 courses take two days to complete and teaching begins at 10.30am and finishes at approximately 4.30pm with about forty five minutes for lunch. (As with Reiki 1, please bring your own or you can pop into the village to one of the tea rooms.) Water and herbal tea is provided throughout the day. You receive two further attunements to strengthen and deepen your connection to Reiki energy. You will have opportunities to discuss healing of others, learn further Reiki exercises, experience meditations as well as learn three key symbols which enable you to have greater conscious connection with Reiki energy. You will also learn some additional healing techniques to supplement the basic hand positions. A full handbook is provided and the course is certified upon completion of case studies. Course price includes up to 2 1 hour mentoring sessions.
Reiki Master Practitioner Course Outline £450
The decision to complete a Reiki Master course is an important one as it is a commitment to a more actively spiritual way of life. It is best to build a solid relationship with your Reiki Master Teacher before choosing to take this course with them. You want to ensure that they are the right teacher for you and that you feel that you can learn from them as they will become an important figure in your life. For many people, this is a natural progression which results from completing Reiki 1 and 2 with the same Reiki Master Teacher. However, this is not always the case and I am always happy to meet aspiring Reiki Masters – I suggest that you book a treatment with me or attend one of my additional classes. I teach Reiki Master Practitioner courses in very small groups - usually two or three people. The courses last four days and dates are negotiated with all participants. Teaching starts at 10.30am and finishes at 4.30pm with an hour for lunch. The course is a mixture of meditation, Reiki exercises, discussion, exploration of your personal spirituality and practice alongside two attunements. You will also learn further symbols and explore powerful new healing techniques. The course is certified and a full handbook is provided.
Reiki Master Teacher Course Outline
'I invite you to grow at your own pace, in your own time, in response to the rhythm of your own journey with an honest relationship with your own readiness to walk with others. I invite you to take on exactly what you are capable of – no more and no less; to accept what this road will bring you and to move into the challenges with integrity; and to re-invent the parameters of yourself in response to each day.'
Although the training of teachers was a significant element of my previous career, I have taken a few years before I have felt ready to deliver Reiki teacher training. I wanted to find a point where my knowledge about the craft of teaching and my sense of the nature of spiritual teaching met. I wanted to draw from the best of my professional pedagogical knowledge to create a teacher training program that would support the development of confident Reiki teachers who are skilled as teachers as well as being able to teach from the heart. In a knowledge-based or skills-based teaching environment there is a ‘right way’ there is a ‘sum total’ of acquired knowledge (in a sense) and it therefore becomes possible to teach from a secure platform. In Reiki teaching that is simply not the case and any attempt to assume such a position will lead to inauthenticity. This is the great gift for us as Reiki teachers and the profound challenge of the work: we have to retain focus on our relationship with Reiki and keep honest in our challenges with that relationship in order to inform our work. Thus, the type of teacher you will be comes down to your relationship with Reiki, what you think Reiki teaching is about and what you believe to be the nature of the role of a Reiki Master Teacher within the teaching space.
